The Eternal Jungle by Zim & Zou

My today post is about this very creative window installation for Hermes store in Hong Kong. 

The Hermès brand has worked hard to earn its world-renowned reputation for enchanting window displays. They reaffirmed their excellent record with this original vitrine at the Hong Kong International Airport, an amazing project made by a 3D creative studio in France, Zim & Zou.

The French artists/designers, Lucie Thomas and Thibault Zimmermann were given carte blanche to fill the space as they pleased, after the brand Hermès saw their masterful “Cabinet de Curiosités” project, a series of intricately detailed birds, insects, and animals made primarily from paper.

The result, the "Eternal Jungle", is an invitation into the wild. The window installation creates an intriguing contrast between the jungle, an unpredictable rainforest, a World that is dominated by wild animals; and the hyper-controlled environment of the store behind it, the World of Hermès. Very clever concept! The window is also influenced by the abundance of vegetation in Hong Kong.

The figures, which could be found in a real jungle, instead exist amid the fast paced urban jungle of Hong Kong.

Zim & Zou's work really shows that the level of craftsmanship involved mirrors that of Hermès products.

The installation displays the finest skills in paper-cut art and leatherwork! Remaining faithful to its original purity, the Studio created intricate objects with the paper, a material both beautiful and versatile.  

The 'Monkey', 'Toucan', and 'Chameleon' are all handcrafted and brought to life with leather offcuts carefully selected from the Hermès workshops. Their paper and leather cut installation has the cartoonish quality of a stop motion film while retaining the signature refinement of the brand. 

Thousands of tiny pebbled leather triangles compose a hairy swinging monkey, a parrot with wings outstretched, and a lurking chameleon. It took 200 hours to create one animal!

Gorgeous Seashell House in Mexico

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Let's start this promising week  with this stunning seashell house in Mexico, shall we? 

Who cares what the neighbors think? Let's build a unique shell shaped house! That's just what a Mexico City couple with their two children did, with the help of the astonishing imagination of Mexican architect Javier Senosiain of Arquitectura Organica. It's amazing. It has to be seen to be believed!

The house design is very innovative, unusual and audacious. Javier decided to bring the life aquatic into architecture. This house turns the form of the Nautilus shell and is wonderful to look at and to be in. 

The open concept inside the house is dominated by smooth surfaces, spiral stairs and natural plantings that makes the inhabitants feel like they're living inside a snail who swallowed the entire contents of somebody's back yard. 

While the house is surrounded on three sides by the bustling Mexico City, its West side (where most of its portal-style windows are located) has a breathtaking view of the mountains. Woww! Maybe someday all houses will be made this way!

Do you want to walk on the stone paths along the amazing grass carpet? Entering the bathroom you will fill yourself under the water with the sandy walls, gorgeous blue tiles and the window overhead. This house is worth speaking about for a long time.... It is not only beautiful but also earthquake-proof and maintenance-free.

Before I saw this I didn't even know I wanted to live in a giant shell, but now I totally do!

Anybody want to get together on weekends and start construction of something similar? And obviously by 'start construction' I mean go kill the world's largest nautilus and live in its shell. :-)

Animal Cereals Bowls - Geraldine De Beco

Would like to eat your cereals out of these bowl each morning? I love them very much. 

These positively stunning bowls were created by the French designer Geraldine De Beco for the porcelain company Bernardaud.

She really created a cool series of ceramic breakfast bowls which have a cute little surprise when filled with liquid. The bowls look really strange while empty, but once you fill them with milk, yogurt or any solid color liquid, the form of an animal magically appears.

You can choose from three different animals: a cat, a wolf or a bird. However, don’t let your kids see these! Pretty amazing, huh? Unfortunately, it costs 240€ a piece! 

They are available through one of Bernardaud’s points of sale. I can’t find these for sale online anywhere.

Erwin Kho is my featured artist of the day. He is an Illustrator and Graphic Designer based in Rotterdam, Netherlands. He specializes in Graphic Design, illustration and Digital Art.

His work can best be described as having a warm clean look with an eye for detail and nuance. Erwin has worked for both national and international clients, including: Archis, BNA, Delta Lloyd, Ernest & Young, FIP, Heineken Netherlands, NIBC, Nike Europe.
